LIONKING2Experience the stunning artistry, unforgettable music and the exhilarating choreography of Disney’s The Lion King. Now is the time to join the circle of life at Broadway’s award–winning Best Musical.

The Lion King has found its way into the hearts of millions. As The New York Times says, “There is simply nothing else like it.”

A lively stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning 1994 Disney film, The Lion King is the story of a young lion prince living in the flourishing African Pride Lands. Born into the royal family, precocious cub Simba spends his days exploring the sprawling savanna grasslands and idolizing his kingly father, Mufasa, while youthfully shirking the responsibility his position in life requires. When an unthinkable tragedy, orchestrated by Simba’s wicked uncle, Scar, takes his father’s life, Simba flees the Pride Lands, leaving his loss and the life he knew behind. Eventually companioned by two hilarious and unlikely friends, Simba starts anew. But when weight of responsibility and a desperate plea from the now ravaged Pride Lands come to find the adult prince, Simba must take on a formidable enemy, and fulfill his destiny to be king. A vibrant and exciting tale from the great creatives at Disney, The Lion King is a story of love and redemption that nobody should miss.

NEW YORK CITY’S HIGH LINE PARK, MEATPACKING DISTRICT AND CHELSEA MARKET GUIDED TOUR [SF]
Date(s):
Tuesday - April 23, 2019
Price:
Desc.:
HIGHLINE High Line Park was created over the rail tracks that used to deliver goods to factories and warehouses in the city. It was designed to mimic the natural plant growth that occurred over the rails when the tracks were no longer being used. Modeled after the Promenade Plantee in Paris, this abandoned raised railway has created NYC’s most original and spectacular public space. It features beautiful views, over 350 species of trees and plant life, shallow pools, lounge chairs, art installations, food stands, shopping and various historical points of interest, and gives you a new perspective in how you see New York.

Do not let the name ‘Meatpacking District’ fool you - the area has been home to beautiful, historic Brownstones, meatpacking plants, some unsavory establishments and today is one of the ‘coolest’ parts of Manhattan. As you walk the cobblestone streets, stories are around every corner.

At the National Biscuit Company complex, begun in the 1890s in what is now west Chelsea, the ovens baked everything from Saltines to Oreos, and has now been turned into a food hall! To walk through the Chelsea Market is to stroll through a sort of postindustrial theme park interspersed with food stores and restaurants. The market, in addition to having some of the best food vendors in the city, also has a handful of unique shops as well. So bring your appetite, get something to eat, and enjoy some great shopping.

Wear comfortable walking shoes!

BKLYNBOTGARD CHERRY_BLOSSOMS Cherry Blossom Time in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is absolutely breathtaking! This is a splendid time for a visit here.

You will have a 1½ hour tour of the spectacular Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

The Cherry Blossom is the national flower in Japan. It is believed to symbolize the life of the Samurai which, like the flower, is short-lived. The beauty of this Japanese icon is well represented at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, with more than 200 trees of 42 varieties blooming in different parts of the garden.

Temperature, precipitation, and other variations in weather all contribute to the timing of the blooms. No one tree remains in flower for more than a week, and there is no moment when all are blooming at once. Instead, different species and cultivars blossom in succession, allowing many opportunities to savor the season.

Lunch is on your own in the Garden! There is the Coffee Bar located in the Visitor Center adjacent to the Atrium. They serve soup, sandwiches, fresh pastries, snacks & beverages. Also the Yellow Magnolia Canteen on the terrace by the entrance to the Steinhardt Conservatory, serving a variety of fresh sandwiches, soups, salads and snacks. And, in addition, if you are looking for full-service dining, the Yellow Magnolia Café offers a wonderful menu in a bright, airy café overlooking the Garden’s Lily Pool Terrace. He was known as a modern nature artist and a public urban space designer. His work had a great influence on tropical garden design in the 20th century. Water gardens were a popular theme in his work. When the world stopped, their stories moved us all.

Come From Away is based on the true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. What started as an average day in a small town turned in to an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander’s air strip on September 11, 2001.

The characters in the musical are based on real Gander residents as well as some of the 7,000 stranded travelers they housed and fed. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

Q: What Does "Come From Away" Mean? A: Native Newfoundlanders refer to those not born on the island as "Come From Aways". The travelers who landed in Newfoundland on diverted planes were said to have "Come From Away".

NEW YORK CITY’S HIGH LINE PARK, MEATPACKING DISTRICT AND CHELSEA MARKET GUIDED TOUR [SF]
Date(s):
Tuesday - July 9, 2019
